Students Gain a Valuable Insight at Weatherford

Angus College Pre-apprentice Engineering students were given the opportunity to see health and safety practices in real life situations at their recent visit to Weatherford International Ltd, one of the largest oilfield service companies with a base at Kirkton Industrial Estate in Arbroath.

As part of their Communications unit, the students are writing reports on the topic of Health and Safety in the Workplace. Course tutor Yvonne Cargill commented ‘We are grateful for the time and effort Rory Aitken, Steve Rae and Billy Watson gave to our visit. It’s always of great benefit for students to see this kind of practice in action.’

Students were given a tour of the facility and were able to witness a range of processes including CNC milling and turning as well as the fabrication shop.

Production at the facility is responsible for Cementation Equipment & Systems, Drilling Jars and Shock Tools, Drilling with Casing and Fishing Jars.

Engineering tutor, Bob Gold was delighted to highlight some good news. ‘Weatherford are currently on a recruitment drive for suitably qualified CNC machinists and one of my students has secured an apprenticeship with the company. The visit has been a great success and is a positive reflection of having close partnerships and strengthening relationships with industry.’
