SVQ Level 2 Playwork

SVQs are work-based qualifications which assess the skills and knowledge people have and need to perform their job role effectively. The SVQs are based on national standards of competence which have been determined by SkillsActive (Sector Skills Council for Playwork). These standards are the benchmarks of competent performance in playwork.

Course Content: 

Mandatory units

  • Supporting relationships in the play environment
  • Work with children and young people to create play spaces and support freely chosen self-directed play
  • Contribute to the health, safety, security and welfare of children and young people using the play environment.
  • Help to improve your won practice and the work of your playwork team.

Optional units

  • Contribute to providing food and drink in the play environment
  • Facilitate a specific play opportunity at children or young people’s request
  • Support the travel of children and young people outside the play environment
Target Group: 

This is a suitable qualification for workers who have delegated responsibility for providing care and support to children in the play setting i.e. playworker/support worker and this qualification covers the following aspects of your job.

Duration: 

The timescale for completing this qualification is twelve months. A total of six units must be completed to achieve this qualification.

Certification: 

Certification is awarded by SQA on completion of this qualification.

  • funding for a course (whether from the Government or from the College’s charitable donations or other sources of income) may be reduced or withdrawn;
  • there may be insufficient interest in a course which means that it is uneconomic or unviable to deliver;
  • there may be a change to the College’s other resources, such as staff or accommodation, which affect the delivery of a course.

A change could involve the replacement of a course with a new course, variations to course content or structure, the merger of courses, or the withdrawal of a course. The College may make a change to a course for the reasons set out above, or for other reasons where it is reasonable for the College to do so. If there is a change to a course about which you have expressed an interest, the College will let you know as soon as possible.

By expressing an interest about a course to the College, you agree to these rules about changes to courses.
