HND Social Science Year 1 - Full Time
Who is this course aimed at?
Anyone wishing to pursue Social Sciences subjects (Psychology, Sociology, History, Research and Criminology) at an advanced level.
What entry requirements will I need?
Entry to Higher National Certificate requires a complete National Certificate course including Communication 4 or Core Skills Communication at Higher; or three relevant Highers (at grade C or above); or for mature students without qualifications, relevant work/life experience. All candidates will be asked to attend an interview and successful placement on this programme may also be subject to a satisfactory reference.
How and where will I study?
At the main Arbroath campus over 15 hours per week plus study time at home or in the College Learning and Technology Suite or Library. One year full-time for HND Year 1 and a further year for the HND Year 2.
What will I study on this course?

Social Science is a stimulating and challenging study area which will enable you to develop an understanding of society, self, the past and the present through the study of Sociology, Psychology, History, Research Methods and other subjects.The second year (HND Year 2) builds on the knowledge gained from year one (HNC/HND Year 1) in all core subject areas, with the addition of Criminology.
The Social Sciences course at Angus College is widely recognised by many universities. Previous students have successfully completed the HND and gone on to do one or two additional years at university to achieve their degree.
Job and progression routes?
The HNC/HND Year 1 course is designed to prepare students for a degree course in Social Sciences and Behavioural Science or for a career in any people-oriented area.
Entry to the HND Year 2 will depend on successful completion of the HNC/HND Year 1.
The HND Year 2 may allow direct entry into year three of The University of Abertay, Dundee, Social Science degree, and year two of their Behavioural Sciences degree or year 3 of the Combined Studies degree at the University of Aberdeen. Successful completion may also allow direct entry into year 2 or 3 on particular courses at The University of Dundee and The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen.
With further study or relevant experience, it is possible to consider careers in Social Work, Teaching, Personnel Management, Sales, the Police Service or virtually any job where an understanding of human behaviour is important.
