Who is this course aimed at?

TThis award is targeted at candidates who wish to follow a career in business applications evelopment, PC first line support or become an advanced IT user. An exciting course that provides you with transferable skills sought by employers and in demand in the workplace, offering an up-to-date IT qualification that reflects recent developments.

What entry requirements will I need?

Entry is subject to an interview selection process which will assess your suitability in terms of academic qualifications and motivation. The minimum academic qualifications are: successful completion of any computing-related certificate course (at least 15 credits including core skills at Intermediate 2/SCQF Level 5 or Higher level). For direct entry you would normally be expected to have attained a minimum of six relevant Standard Grades at level 1-3 and/or one relevant Higher Grade. Mature applicants with relevant employment experience are welcome and will be assessed on an individual basis and may be required to undertake additional exercises.

How and where will I study?

One year full-time, two years part-time, infill to specific units or some flexibility undertaken through blended learning.

What will I study on this course?

Aimed at the requirements of an IT Specialist, this course covers a range of applications of general computing. You will gain knowledge and expertise in subjects such as First Line IT support, allowing you to assemble a PC and troubleshoot hardware and software problems, database design, applications development, introduction to e-commerce and website development. There is also an mphasis on application packages used in everyday business including spreadsheets and databases.

Job and progression routes?

Information technology user/support; database design; IT management; and technical support roles.

Successful completion may give entry to HND Information System Technology studied on a full-time basis.
