Who is this course aimed at?

This course is aimed at anyone interested in gaining an additional Higher to enhance their qualications. Candidates can progress from Intermediate 2 Care or may have no formal qualications but are interested in learning more about Sociological and Psychological aspects of care theory as well as exploring Values and Principles in Care.

What entry requirements will I need?

Candidates should be able to study at Higher level.

How and where will I study?

Start date: Tuesday 27 August 2013 – one evening class per week (6-8.30pm) in Arbroath.

Course duration: 36 weeks.

What will I study on this course?

SCQF Level 6

This Higher care course explores relevant theories and principles relating to care.

Unit one – Values and Principles in Care which is designed to provide you with an understanding of the caring relationship and the values and principles that underpin professional care practices.

Unit two – Sociology for Care will provide you with a framework to understand some of the wider social influences that impact on care service users. It will provide you with the main sociological theories that provide insight into the influences that shape individuals’ lives.

Unit three – Psychology for Care will provide you with a framework to understand human development and behaviour and some of the key psychological approaches to a care context.

Job and progression routes?

Candidates may use this as a Higher to access higher education in relevant areas, eg. Nursing, Healthcare, Youth & Childhood Studies.
