Who is this course aimed at?

This is an ideal course for those wishing to develop a knowledge and understanding of computing concepts, practical skills in the use of computer hardware and software and an ability to use these to solve problems.

What entry requirements will I need?

Entry is subject to a selection process which will assess your suitability in terms of academic qualifications and motivation. The minimum academic qualifications are: Successful completion of a computing related introduction course (at least 16 credits including core skills at Intermediate 1 level and pass of exam and coursework). For direct entry you would normally be expected to have attained a minimum of four Standard Grades at level 3-4. Mature applicants seeking a change in career are welcome and will be assessed on an individual basis – you may be required to undertake an additional exercise. All applicants are subject to an interview and core skills test which must be achieved at Intermediate 1 level.

How and where will I study?

Although achievement is continually assessed, you will also sit a formal exam at the end of the year. This full-time course is based at the main College campus in Arbroath.

What will I study on this course?

During this challenging course you will gain knowledge and skills of diagnosing, repairing, configuring and upgrading personal computers (hardware and operating systems). In addition, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in network design, multimedia, web design, programming and database design.

Job and progression routes?

Successful completion of at least 15 credits, including core skills, exam and coursework, may allow entry into HNC Computing or HNC Information Systems Technology (subject to interview).
