Who is this course aimed at?

This is an ideal starting point for learners embarking on a career in care as it provides a basic knowledge and understanding of care skills and values required to work in either a health or social care setting. This locally devised course is an ideal starting point for those who have had no previous experience.

What entry requirements will I need?

Entry is subject to a selection process which consists of an interview, one satisfactory reference and a demonstration of written communication skills.

How and where will I study?

You will study for 15 hours per week at the main College campus in Arbroath, a teambuilding activity may also take place in the Saltire Centre, Arbroath.

What will I study on this course?

During the course you will be given the opportunity to study ‘Skills for Work’ Health sector course which includes Health Awareness, Life Science, Working Safely, Health Sector: An Introduction and Roles & Responsibilities in Care. Other units include Values and Principles in Care, HIV & Hepatitis – An introduction, Sociology & Psychology for Care and Prevention of Infection and Core Skills (communication, numeracy and IT).

Job and progression routes?

Employment in various care settings. Subject to interview and references – progression to Certificate in Health & Social Care at Intermediate 2 or the Certificate in Health, Social & Childcare at Intermediate 2 based in Montrose Learning Centre. This course runs 9.30am-1pm, five mornings a week.
