Access To University Study (SWAP) - Full Time
Who is this course aimed at?
Have you been out of full-time,formal education for three years? Do you want to undertake a course which offers progression for mature learners to study at university level? If yes to both, this course is designed to meet your needs. The Access to University Study is aimed at individuals who have had a break in their formal education but are seeking a route to return to education at university level to undertake a wide range of degrees.
What entry requirements will I need?
A personal interview will be carried out to determine if the above SWAP criteria are met. A diagnostic test will also be undertaken to determine whether you have the required level of communication and literacy skills.
How and where will I study?
As well as a good choice of subject areas, you will also be given guidance on progression to higher education and will learn the essentials of study skills which will be crucial to you throughout your learning period. Areas such as investigation skills, problem solving, numeracy, IT and working with others will also form part of your programme.
What will I study on this course?
This course offers a choice in the units undertaken and throughout the course you will choose subjects from Highers in English, psychology, modern studies and intermediate 2 maths as well as undertaking information technology and guidance. If any of the choices listed above are unsuitable there may be the option to infill into Higher history, Higher maths or Higher sociology, all of which run in the evenings.
Job and progression routes?
Successful completion of the course will lead to a range of possible progression routes into a wide variety of degrees at universities throughout Scotland. In addition to the full-time Access to University Study and Certificate in Highers courses there is opportunity to choose selected Highers and units with some subjects offering the option to study by distance learning.
