PDA Health & Social Supervision Care - Distance Learning

Who is this course aimed at?

This award comprises of two SQA units and is designed for those working within care who hold a supervisory role and enables registration with Scottish Social Services Council. The aim of the award is to equip candidates to recognise their own role and function in taking some responsibility for the work of others within a defined structure and to apply, within their supervisory role, the policies, procedures and best practice related to the protection of people.

What entry requirements will I need?

Candidates must be working in a supervisory capacity/management capacity in a health and social care setting.

How and where will I study?

Delivery is a blend of small group tutorials, individual support and online activity. Start dates are flexible and may be offered subject to demand and delivery can be offered at a variety of College or community/work based sites to suit candidates needs.

What will I study on this course?

SCQF Level 7

Candidates will demonstrate effective supervision through behaviour, communication and decision-making within the role of supervisor. They will be able to understand and apply the key principles of supervision. Candidates will promote and monitor compliance in relation to policies, procedures and best practice relevant to the assessment of risk, safe working practices and safeguarding. Candidates will show evidence of understanding and develop methods and skills used to supervise staff to assess and manage risks to health and wellbeing.

Job and progression routes?

The award was created to meet the requirements of social service workers who are registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) at support or practitioner level, and who are now in a supervisory role requiring additional qualifications. Designed for employees who are in their first-line management role and who provide supervision, support and guidance to other staff.

Examples of possible job titles include senior care workers, senior support workers and senior day-care workers in services for older people, mental health, home care and housing support.

Successful completion of this PDA may lead to opportunities for employment in a more senior role. It may also lead to the candidate being able to gain access to a range of other related health and social services qualifications.
