Social Science National Award (Higher)
Who is this course aimed at?
SCQF Level 6
The level 6 programme offers the opportunity to undertake external examination in the form of Higher National Awards and offers an excellent preparation for the Social Science HN.
What entry requirements will I need?
Successful completion of the Social Science National Award (Int 2) Level 5. Alternatively, the level 6 programme would suit those with Standard Grades or those returning to education with previous experience of study at level 6 or equivalent.
All candidates will be asked to attend an interview and successful placement on this programme may also be subject to a satisfactory reference. A written test will determine whether you have the required level of communication and literacy skills.
How and where will I study?
One year full-time and based at the main College campus in Arbroath. Educational visits and excursions to places like the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh will further enhance your understanding of social issues and current affairs.
What will I study on this course?
Core subjects will be Sociology, Psychology and History with possible options such as Criminology, Philosophy, Modern Studies.
Job and progression routes?
With further study you can use your knowledge and skills to work in areas such as Social Services, Teaching and Guidance.
Progression to HNC Social Sciences is dependent on passing all units of the National Award programme. It may also allow entry on to a Highers programme, dependent upon credits gained, attendance and overall performance.
