Pre-apprentice Engineering SVQ Level II - Full Time
Who is this course aimed at?
This course is aimed at those who wish to pursue a career in engineering. This qualification forms the foundation stage of a craft apprenticeship and covers key disciplines within the engineering sector of mechanical manufacture, mechanical fitting, welding and electrical installation.
What entry requirements will I need?
Entry is subject to a selection process which consists of an interview and an exercise which demonstrates both your written and practical skills. Qualifications in Standard Grade Maths at credit or general, Science or equivalent preferred with consideration given on an individual basis to those with relevant experience.
How and where will I study?
The Engineering Department at the main Arbroath campus.
What will I study on this course?
A very practical and hands-on course where you will cover various welding processes and techniques, lathe work, mechanical fitting and basic electrical installation. In addition to the practical work, you will also learn the supporting theory including health and safety and the important core skills areas of literacy, numeracy, IT and team working.
Job and progression routes?
This is a SVQ Level 2 qualification which forms the first step of the Modern Apprenticeship and can lead to progression to other engineering courses at Angus College or to complete an engineering apprenticeship within various industry sectors such as oil and gas, renewables and manufacture.
