Early Education & Child Care Group Award At Higher Level - Full Time
Who is this course aimed at?
This course is aimed at candidates who wish to gain a nationally recognised qualification at Higher level. This course actively encourages applications from both male and female students.
What entry requirements will I need?
Entry is subject to a selection process which consists of an interview, one satisfactory reference and a demonstration of written communication skills. All successful candidates will be required to be a member of the PVG Scheme prior to placement. School Leavers should have Standard Grades at 1, 2 or 3 level or National 5. Adult Returners should be able to demonstrate the potential to work at the higher level.

Study will take place at the Arbroath campus.
What will I study on this course?
This course allows candidates to study, in depth, the knowledge and skills required in the early education and childcare sector to work with children 0-12 years. To make your time on this course realistic you will be given the opportunity to undertake placements in local nurseries and schools where your confidence will grow in working alongside professionals in supporting children’s development and learning. It is also available to gain one academic Higher within the award based on Child Development, Theory and Health. Other topics covered include Play, Children’s Rights and Protection and Behaviour.
Job and progression routes?
Support for Learning Assistant, Classroom Assistant, Playgroup Assistant, Out of School Care Depute. Many students also progress on to the HNC Early Education & Child Care. This Group Award will allow you to register as a support worker with the Scottish Social Services Council. HNC Early Education & Childcare SCQF Level 7 Who is this course aimed at? This course is ideally suited for candidates who have an interest in working with children 0-12 years and wish to continue their studies in the child care area.This course actively encourages applications from both male and female candidates. What entry requirements will I need? National Certificate Early Education & Childcare Group Award at Higher, SVQ 2 Children’s Care Learning & Development or relevant experience in Early Education and Childcare plus knowledge of Child Development. Entry is subject to a selection/recruitment process which consists of two interviews. An initial interview to assess suitability of course to candidate. The final part of the rocess will consist of an interview with College staff and a placement provider. All successful candidates will be required to be a member of the PVG Scheme prior to placement. School Leavers should have achievements at Higher level as well as child care experience. Adult Returners should be able to demonstrate the potential to work at this advanced level. How and where will I study? Study will take place at the main Arbroath campus. What will I study on this course? Building on the Early Education and Childcare Higher you will study in depth the theory, policies and understanding of children’s development and learning which will enable you to be a confident and competent practitioner. A significant proportion of the course is learning within workplace settings such as local authority nurseries, private nurseries and primary schools where you will have the chance to put theory into practice as part of a professional team. Throughout the course you will see your confidence grow as you gain new skills in areas including research, observations, communication and team working.
